Veneers

Reshape the appearance of your teeth for a natural, balanced smile.

Sometimes brushing, whitening and fillings are not enough to achieve the look you want. Chips, gaps, uneven edges, stubborn discolouration that will not budge. These are the kinds of concerns that veneers are designed to address. At Baloyi Dentals, veneers offer a way to reshape the appearance of your teeth while keeping the result natural and balanced.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They are designed to improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, unevenly spaced, worn down or discoloured beyond what whitening can correct.

Each veneer is crafted to match the shape, size and colour of your surrounding teeth, so the result blends in seamlessly with your natural smile. When placed correctly, veneers look and feel like your own teeth.

Who Are Veneers Suitable For?

Veneers are often considered by patients who want to improve the cosmetic appearance of their smile but do not require more extensive orthodontic or restorative work. They can address a range of concerns, including teeth that are slightly misaligned, worn at the edges, chipped from an injury or stained in a way that does not respond to professional whitening.

During your initial consultation, Dumisani will assess whether veneers are a suitable option for you. This assessment considers the condition of your natural teeth, your gum health, your bite and what you are hoping to achieve. Veneers are not appropriate in every case, and Dumisani will be upfront about whether they are the right solution for your particular situation.

What Does the Veneer Process Involve?

The process typically takes place over two appointments. During the first visit, a small amount of enamel is removed from the surface of the teeth being treated. This creates the space needed for the veneer to sit flush against the tooth without feeling bulky. Impressions are then taken of your prepared teeth, and these are sent to a dental laboratory where your veneers are custom-fabricated to precise specifications.

At the second appointment, the veneers are tried on and checked for fit, colour accuracy and alignment. Once everything looks right, they are permanently bonded to your teeth using a strong adhesive. Dumisani will check your bite and make any final refinements to ensure the result is both comfortable and natural-looking.

How Do You Care for Veneers?

Veneers do not require special maintenance beyond good oral hygiene. Regular brushing, flossing and routine dental check-ups will keep them in good condition. It is advisable to avoid using your veneered teeth to bite into very hard objects such as ice or pen caps, as this can cause chipping.

With proper care, veneers can last for many years and continue to look as good as the day they were placed. Dumisani will advise you on how to protect your investment and will monitor the condition of your veneers during your regular check-ups.

If a veneer ever chips or becomes loose, contact the practice as soon as possible. In most cases, it can be repaired or replaced without significant difficulty. The key is addressing it promptly rather than leaving it.
